Friday 30 July 2010 - There has been a skills shortage aboard so I've had to pull a few shifts on the derrick tower, one of the jobs is to 'stab the pipe' the basis of which is to hang out over the edge of this bloody big tower and make sure the driller has the pipes lined up straight so he can thread them together, talk about insanity, every time I'm up there I always think why am I doing this? Then, oh yeah $45 an hour, that's why.

Wednesday 28 July 2010 - I've been off the rig for about 3 days now and are soaking up every minute of it, on the flight home the pilot took us for a detour over the bass straight, he showed us all the main rigs operating in the area, they looked like giant pimples on mother earths face, he also explained the Basslink cable to us which he did some work on, quite an interesting chap, well for a Manly supporter that is.

Monday 26 July 2010 - I was meant to be back on the rigs by now but there was a logistical error and the crew thats on now are going to pull a double stint to catch up, so the company has put us up in a hotel until we are needed. So basically we've been using the company credit card to live lavishly while playing poker, drink beer and pretending to be the cast of the twelfth man.
