Steps to obtain offshore oil field jobs

Prior to working at offshore oil field jobs, it is likely that you will need experience on a land based oil field first. This is where you will learn the basic skills and knowledge needed to be able to function on an offshore oil rig.

Once you have obtained a job working on an offshore oil field rig, you will be trained on the equipment that you will be using onboard this particular rig. There is also some classroom based training as well.

Once offshore oil field and gas jobs workers have a good understanding of entry level positions on the rig, they will be given opportunities to be able to move on to the next level with more responsibility and/or difficult jobs. There are many ways in which this could happen. For instance job shadowing; mentoring and coaching, this is also used to get you up to speed on what you yourself have to learn. Much of your learning will happen while on your oil or gas jobs.

There are also courses available like basic offshore survival and fire fighting that may be of interest. While they are not compulsory they may give you the upper hand when applying for a job.
