If
you wish to obtain employment in overseas oil and gas jobs, you should
consider obtaining the Basic Offshore Survival & Firefighting certificate.
While this course only runs for one and a half days, it is very intensive
and physically demanding. The certificate is valid for 4 years afterwards.
Facets of the course includes working with lifejackets, training
in the pool, rope climbing techniques, how best to jump into water
from a height, etc. All the training for overseas oil and gas
jobs is done with your safety in mind, and you are equipped with
both a life jacket and life suit. Additionally there are divers
with scuba equipment standing by during the training, should they
be required. Other training includes simulated underwater and
helicopter escape rescues, which while challenging, are necessary
skills to learn before heading off to work on board an offshore
oil rig.
There are also other certificates that you can obtain which can
help when applying for overseas oil and gas jobs. These include
specific training on firefighting, drilling, lifting and handling
materials. Finally, there are schools that provide you training
on becoming a Roughneck. These provide you with sufficient training
to get you up to the standard required if you wish to move into
this job position.
